SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) John Sims creates provocative multimedia and performance works that confront “Confederate iconography as symbols of visual terrorism and white supremacy in the context of African American culture.”
That project, called Recoloration Proclamation, has been the Sarasota-based artist, writer and activist’s primary mission for 20 years.
It began when the Detroit native moved to Sarasota to teach visual mathematics at the Ringling College of Art and Design. He was stunned by the Confederate flags and memorials he saw in town. Sims inspired a national pushback on Confederate symbols. ....

Researcher talks monuments on ancient Azerbaijani lands vandalized by Armenians

There were 8,000 historical and cultural monuments on ancient Azerbaijani lands, where Armenia is now located, Faig Ismayilov, an expert and researcher on cultural values, professor of the Moscow branch of the International Academy of Architects, member of the board of the Union of Architects of Azerbaijan, told Trend.
Ismayilov said that most of the monuments were destroyed by Armenians, and the rest was Armenianized.
He pointed out that currently there isn t enough information on how many Azerbaijani monuments have survived on the territory of Armenia, and this needs to be clarified.

Students at the University of Washington (UW) are demanding that the school remove a statue of George Washington, claiming that its existence “perpetuates white supremacy.” Washington, the first U.S. president, is the namesake of both the university and the state it is located in.
A petition started by the University of Washington Black Student Union titled, “Demand for the University of Washington Administration to Meet the Needs of Black Students,” demands that the university “remove statues of racist figures,” and specifically calls out George Washington.
“Statues in place at the University of Washington are preservers of our dark past,” the petition reads. “The George Washington statue, in particular, symbolizes a man who owned over 300 black slaves and profited from their labor.” ....
